Dodge Omni GLH Turbo Gets Shelby Touch

Classic hatchbacks still have their own fans, despite the fact that carbuyers nowadays are chasing over the crossovers. The Dodge Omni GLH is lucky to be among the traditional hatchbacks that is still survived.

It all started in 1984 when Chrysler chairman Lee Laccoca engaged longtime friend Carroll Shelby to make over the sedate Omni five-door into a better one. He did, and the car got better over the next three years, finishing in the Shelby named GLHS.

The 1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo got a high-output 2.2-liter four in its first year, that was good for 110 horsepower. It was accompanied by a lowered and stiffer suspension setup, sharper steering ratio, bigger brakes, and 15-inch wheels wrapped in performance tires.

Although the Dodge Omni GLH Turbo could beat a GTI in a straight line, unfortunately, it could not save itself from extermination. After 1986, Dodge discarded the GLH and GLH Turbo, with Shleby’s 500 limited-run GLSH super hatchbacks bidding farewell to that era.
