There is no doubt that when Bethesda has developed Fallout 4, there will be DLCs coming shortly after. For the fans, they are accustomed to this tradition but it would be much better if future DLCs are standardized.
Looking at how it was throughout the Fallout series, DLCs mostly contradicts to the game’s identity. To be more precise, most DLCs are made to be linear add-on missions. It seems that the fans appreciate Point Lookout more than other contents due to their sandbox setup.
In detail, Point Lookout offered players side quests as well as more territory to explore whereas other DLCs comes with a linear quest line. Openness is something that is core to the Fallout series and the DLCs should abide by it.
Of course, the best thing Bethesda could ever do with Fallout 4 is scrap the entire DLC tradition and simply put everything they can in the sequel. Doing so will surely get a standing ovation from the entire Fallout community.
