Fans of the Half Life series have been enduring a super long wait for Half Life 3 to get released. Following the leaks and announcement on the development of the Source 2 gaming engine from Valve, the hope got reignited and the fans know that Half Life 3 will come soon.
However, things suffered a major setback. Valve revealed that the Source 2 engine will be released soon and the launch title won’t be a Half Life 3. Instead, it will be Ricochet 2. While this game is not known to many, the Half Life community believes it to be the codename for Half Life 3.
Source 2 is a major accomplishment for Valve and to feed with an unknown and unproven game seems unlikely. The first Source engine was released together with Half Life 2. If the Source 2 is truly isn’t a Half Life 3, then the launch title should be Left 4 Dead 3 or Portal. After all, these are games with a proven fan-base that assures success.
Despite that fact, believing Ricochet 2 to be the Half Life 3 entirely would be a mistake. Word has it that it is an unknown game that actually exists and developed just to demonstrate Source 2 capabilities. On top of that, the Source 2 engine will do the marketing for Ricochet 2 itself.
The mystery remains. Is Ricochet 2 a Half Life 3 game? We will never know the answer. At least until Source 2 gets released itself.
