Volkswagen was not joking when it confirmed that the future Golf R Facelift will be based on the concept model that was unveiled at the last Beijing Auto Show. The German carmaker made the call earlier this month and development for the Golf R Facelift has hence commenced.
Like the concept, the upcoming Golf R Facelift will be coated in lemon yellow paint while the interior will be themed in silver. This is to mimic the classy appearance of the legendary 1989 Rally Golf. Of course, the future Golf R’s design will be integrated with modern styling to give off a thoroughly splendid look.
While no details were shared by Volkswagen, fans of the Golf badge can expect the upcoming sports hatch to be built on the Haldex 5 platform. The Golf R Facelift will be powered by a 2.2L turbocharged engine that drives on the AWD system.
In figures, this will develop 292hp that is pumped through a 7-speed DSG transmission. Also, the Golf R Facelift is able to accelerate from 0-62mph in about 3.9seconds. Then again, the specs are merely based on expectation and are pending to get confirmed by Volkswagen.
