2014 Jeep Renegade Review: Why So Much Hate?

When the Jeep Renegade made its debut late last year, it is met with heavy criticism from the masses. This is due to the fact that the Renegade was introduced in the overcrowded compact SUV segment, thus, it is heavily linked to being a flop rather than something exquisite.

Then again, there isn’t a lot wrong with the Renegade. The vehicle came out with a splendid design that is truly appealing, even to the general consumers. The interior too is gentler than other Jeep vehicles as it offers a roomy cabin with soft seats.

Under the hood, the Renegade is powered by a 2L turbocharged diesel engine that develops 138hp through a 6-speed manual transmission. In figures, the Renegade is decently powered as it is able to sprint from 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds and there is a top speed of 110mph.

When on the tar mat, drivers will surely appreciate the tall driving height and also be amazed at how well the Renegade cruises. It might feel underpowered when required to overtake at high speed but the overall experience is nevertheless delightful.

Of course, things are definitely better off the roads as the Renegade is equipped with Jeep’s award-winning 4WD technology. The Renegade is simply a beast as it is able to climb hills, cross rivers and even surf on sand dunes with ease.

To make things short, the Renegade is simply the best off-roading compact SUV in history. However, this is also the biggest problem with the Renegade. After all, not every day is Sunday and not everyone is an off-road enthusiast. Thus, the Renegade has been struggling to sell since general consumers are looking for vehicles that are more efficient on daily operation.
