LG G2 Android 5.0 Lollipop Up For Grabs

One of the best smartphones from 2013 is the LG G2 and it came out with a high end specs while also being affordable to own. Now G2 users can get more out of the device through updating it to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The latest OS from Google was released back in November last year and now; it has unofficially arrived to the G2. This is because the Android Lollipop update is produced by XDA’s Rashed 97 and G2 users are required to install it manually.

The custom ROM which contains the Android 5.0 Lollipop is made specifically for the G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980, and VS980 variants. However, the custom ROM is still in its early build so there are some issues that come with it.

Rashed97 was kind enough to share that the errors are with the video recording and GPS functions. Also, the LS/VS980 variant has some issue with the cellular network. The upside to this is that Rashed97 promises to patch the problems in the future.

So, if you’re a G2 user and wish to update your device, you can download the custom ROM and the Google Apps package, before applying the following steps.

Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.

Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
