Samsung Galaxy S3 & S2 Android 4.1 JellyBean Update Now Available Via A Custom ROM

Samsung will be bringing the Android 4.1 JellyBean update to the Samsung Galaxy S3 by the end of the year, however it is unlikely that the S2 will ever see it. This could change though if the rumors can be believed as developers over at XDA have brought JellyBean to both phones with a custom ROM. This means that the operating system is now available for both of the phones before it has been released by Samsung.

Android 4.1 JellyBean custom ROM now available for Samsung Galaxy S3 & S2

Faryaab, who is one of the developers behind it, is offering his version of the Android 4.1 port for the international version of the Galaxy S3. A port means that it was meant to work on another phone and has been adapted. The developer, based in the UK, has the Android 4.1 OTS update for the Nexus working on the S3.

Of course as the ROM is in the early alpha phase some of the features will not work properly, including the camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and SD card. Also there is no audio when making voice calls. You may wish to wait and avoid installing the early release as you could turn your new phone into a brick.

Another developer, LastStandingDroid, has also revealed his Jelly Bean ROM for the S2. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 will face the same problems as this is an early release and it is said to be buggy.

Both of the ROMs have been developed for experiment only and are not recommended for everyday use as they are still in the very early stages. The developers will be polishing functionality of the ROMs to deliver a more stable version of Android 4.1 in the coming weeks.
