Verizon Nexus 7 & Android 4.4 KitKat Waiting Games

The Nexus 7 LTE version from US carrier Verizon will see another delay based on the statement released by the telecommunication giant just this afternoon. Having previously promised to rollout the 4G LTE version of Google’s tablet in 4-6 weeks time, we have already passed the dateline only to find ourselves waiting again.

Verizon wanted to be the sole carrier that launches the device in the 4G network. However, the company suffered a hiccup when the relevant certification was needed to proceed which takes up to 6 weeks.

While that was being done, another problem surfaced. There was a system issue with the Jellybean OS that requires its manufacturers to do some tweaking. Not long after, Google launched its Android 4.4 KitKat. That was when Verizon decided to do away with the certification and wait for the KitKat update for the Nexus to come. Once everything is updated, then the telco giant will push for the certificate again.

During the KitKat launch, Google made it no secret that the new update will be available on other devices in weeks to come. If you put that into account together with the 6 weeks certification, it can be a 3 months wait. If it were that long, Verizon might scrap the entire idea.
