In about a year from now, Volkswagen will be launching a new Golf R and it is confirmed to be a facelift model of the existing sports hatch. However, the Golf R Facelift will get a totally different appearance that is inspired by the legendary 1989 Rally Golf.
This was teased by Volkswagen yesterday when they announced that the design cues will be like the vehicle’s concept model, which was unveiled at the last Beijing Auto Show. While we don’t expect the Golf R Facelift to look entirely like the concept but we won’t be surprised if it wears a lemon yellow paint with silver for its interior.
Volkswagen has yet to share on the sort of engines that will be powering the vehicle but we can expect it to run on a 2.2L turbocharged motor that is paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission. Together with the Haldex 5 architecture and AWD system, the sports hatch is expect to feature 292hp.
Unlike every other facelift model before this, the upcoming Golf R is worth the anticipation as the changes are going to be huge. Of course, there is no doubt that Volkswagen will be spilling more beans on the Golf R Facelift prior to the vehicle’s debut next year.
