First you will need to tap the profile button in the right corner of the screen and then scroll down and tap offline maps. You can then choose the map that you want to save to the device. A region as large as Paris metro can be saved and of course this can come in handy. Users can store up to six offline maps and the Paris map takes up just 6MB of space.
If you choose a region that is too big then Google Maps will tell you to zoom in and resave. When the map has been saved, you can make use of all the features, such as offline mode without having to be connected to the internet, providing that the GPS of the handset is enabled. The feature can be useful if say, you are travelling to a country you don’t know.
If you type “OK Maps” within the search box when you are viewing a map it will allow you to save the map to use offline.
Of course some features, such as indoor maps, terrain and satellite are not available offline and neither is Directions and Navigation.
