Samsung Galaxy S5 Is No Longer For Everyone

Carriers in the US will be getting the Samsung Galaxy S5 on Friday, these include AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular and retailers such as Best Buy and Radio Shack and they have now been telling us about the cost of the device.

Rumours about the Samsung Galaxy S5 before it arrived suggested that the handset could be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S4, however according to the carriers this won’t be the case and the handset will in fact be more expensive.

The subsidised Samsung Galaxy S5 are around the same as those for the Samsung Galaxy S4, but if you take a look at the full retail costs with each carrier then you can see the hike in price between the generations. The majority of the carriers are offering the Samsung Galaxy S for $19.99 when you take the handset with a contract of two years. Best Buy meanwhile is offering the device for $229.99 with a two year contract.

At AT&T you can pick up the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $649.99 without a contract and the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 came in at $639.99 when it was launched.

The Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is $649.99 contract free and they were offering the Samsung Galaxy S4 for $599.99 when it was launched.

U.S Cellular has the Samsung Galaxy S5 on for $649.99 contract free and the predecessor came in at $749.99 when it launched.

T-Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $660 and the S4 came in at $629 when it arrived on the scene.

Over at Best Buy you can pick up the Samsung Galaxy S5 from AT&T or Sprint for the cost of $749.99 contract free and they offered the Samsung Galaxy S4 for the same price when it arrived.

Samsung Canada meanwhile said that they are offering the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $229 with select plans on Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Virgin Mobile, Koodo, MTS, Eastlink, SaskTel, Videotron and Wind Mobile. When the Samsung Galaxy S4 came out it was on sale for $200 with a contract of three years, with Rogers and Telus.

In South Korea it has been said that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will cost 800,000 Won, people thought that it would come in cheaper as the Samsung Galaxy S4 was 890,000 Won when it came out. Another source has said that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would come in at NT$22,900 in Taiwan, while the S4 was NT$21,900 when it arrived.

Before the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 it was rumoured that Samsung could lower the price tag of the Samsung Galaxy S5 after the S4 failed to reach the target of 100 million unit sales. Some people have said that the S4 didn’t sell as well as Samsung thought it would, but the device has been Samsung’s fastest selling handset to date as it has sold over 40 million units in October. Analysts have not yet predicted sales of the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy S5 has therefore not increased a great deal for the majority of sellers. It is thought that most people will purchase the handset with a contract and so they will not notice a difference in the price.
