Yes, You Apparently Can Downgrade From iOS 7.1 With Just iTunes

Apple has just rolled out the iOS 7.1 update and like every other update, there is always that handful of users with jailbroken iPhones who bites the bait without thinking. For many times already, the team of hackers have warned against updating without getting confirmation and yet it still happens.

Previously, updates can’t be reverted due to it being a whole new level in firmware. Since this is an update that is still in the iOS 7 bracket, users who mistakenly updated their device can restore them the iOS 7.0.4 reports IB Times. We haven’t given this a try however but IB Times suggest that it works and they had attempted it with iOS 7.1 beta. So go ahead at your own risk.

To do so, two things are required and they are the latest iTunes and the 7.0.4 firmware which is available everywhere. When both requirements are acquired, simply follow the instructions below.

1. Connect the device (iPhone 4,4S,5,5S,5C) to the computer via USB an launch iTunes.
2. Enter DFU mode by pressing both the home button and power button at the same time for 10 seconds. After that, release the power button only while still holding on to the Home button. iTunes will recognize this and enter recovery mode.
3. Hold the Shift key and click on restore on iTunes. (Alt/Option key for Mac)
4. Choose the firmware downloaded earlier and installation will be done automatically.

Jailbreakers are lucky that there is a U-turn for this update. If not, they will have to be content with the iOS 7.1 untitl the next jailbreak gets rolled out.
