Hyundai Sonata Has One More Horse Than Dodge

The Sonata is one of the bestselling sedans from Hyundai and this is owed to its practicality, reliability, efficiency and comfort. Soon, the Sonata will be remembered for something different and it is power.

Hyundai has passed the Sonata to Bisimoto Engineering to create a 708hp model that is due to arrive at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. The vehicle currently in development is confirmed to be the most powerful Sonata ever, and it is also 1hp more powerful than the Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat.

Bisimoto teased that they Sonata is almost ready. When asked on how they were able to accomplish the targeted horsepower, Bisimoto explained that they used strengthened internal components like forged pistons, connecting rods, a high-revving valve train and camshafts. Together with a turbocharger and a 6-speed manual gearbox, the Sonata will have a fast-burning, flex-fuel diet.

On the downside of things, the company didn’t reveal if the Sonata still runs on the FWD architecture. Regardless, Bisimoto claims that they also prioritize reliability. In total, the company managed 18 prototype models that are capable of 708hp.

The upcoming Sonata will be looking to join the ranks of a super car once it gets unveiled later this year. The sedan will be completed with an aero kit, racing harnesses, AEM wideband gauges and 18-inch alloys.
