Sony Xperia Phones May Get ‘Exclusive’ Android KitKat Features

Sony has dropped out a hint about what owners of the Xperia can expect to see when KitKat 4.4 is released along with 4.4.2 for the Xperia Z handsets along with the SP, T, TX and V. it is thought that many features will be based around the likes of the Xperia Sirius and Z1 and some of the features could include two new user interfaces, battery managers and camera modes.

We saw the Sony Sirius user interface leaked and it had two types, the Simple home screen and the Xperia one. the leak also revealed that the icons have changed and now there is a new battery icon and status bar icons.

When Jelly Bean 4.3 came out Sony brought owners Smart Social apps with a new UI and camera modes. The Sony Xperia Z1, Ultra X and other handsets in the Z series could have some camera features that are exclusive which have been taken from the Sirius; these could include Background Defocus along with TimeShift video.

Smart app has been given an update and now it comes with a brand new look. There is a Close All button which is one part of Recent Apps along with a new feature Smart Backlight. This is very much the same as Smart Stay on Samsung devices. In the KitKat 4.4.2 update there is also support for white balance, smart call handling and double tap to wake.

The Xperia Sirius gets some new sound options which feature audio accessory support and high resolution audio with USB. The Sirius will get S Force audio along with Clear Audio and the xLoud engine.

Owners can look forward to plenty of customisation options for notifications and status bar. There are My Xperia themes. At the moment owners with Jelly Bean 4.3 cannot apply further customisation with My Xperia Themes.

KitKat will bring better power management, stamina mode, low battery and location based Wi-Fi. Background data can be queued to save battery life.

It is thought that the Sony Xperia Z series will get an update to KitKat this year, the Xperia SP, T, TX and V may have to hang on a while for Android 4.3.
