Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Now Available But There’s A Catch!

Just recently, we shared on how the Samsung Galaxy S3 can already update to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop that is developed by XDA developers. Now, it appears that the much older Samsung Galaxy S2 can also apply the update.

It appears that the developers have created the CodeRom Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 model and it will bless the device with the latest OS. However, the CodeRom is only capable of running Lollipop’s boot animation at the moment but future updates will see more features being added into the OS.

In addition to that, the CodeRom is still not finalized which means that there are some bugs and issues with the OS. The list of malfunctioning features includes the mobile network, WLAN, Bluetooth, home button, SDcard support and random reboots.

If you are an S2 GT-I9100 user and wouldn’t mind the issues just to get a lick at the Android 5.0 Lollipop, then you can follow the installation instruction below.

The process is identical to applying an AOSP or CyanogenMod update so do make sure that the device is rooted, backed up, has 50% battery and all the other requirements checked prior to the update.

1. Download CodeRom Lollipop on the computer.

2. Connect and mount the phone’s USB mass storage on computer with USB cable.

3. Now, copy the ROM zip file to the root folder on the phone’s SD card.

4. Power off the phone and disconnect its USB cable from computer and boot into Recovery Mode.

5. Perform a full data wipe task by clicking Wipe Data/Factory Reset.

6. Then, perform Wipe Cache Partition before starting on Wipe Dalvik Cache over at the ‘advanced’ option.

7. Now, choose Install Zip from SD card at the Recovery main menu.

8. Choose Zip from SD card and click on it to commence installation.

9. Repeat Steps 7 and 8 for Google Apps Package

10. Once done, go to “+++++Go Back+++++” and select Reboot System Now in the Recovery menu.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 will then perform a 5-minute long reboot. Once it is booted, you should see the Android 5.0 Lollipop running the device.
