Recalled: Dodge Viper & Jeep Wrangler

A set of recalls affecting almost 63,000 vehicles has been announced by Fiat Chrysler Autoobiles. The larger of the two recalls affects manual-transmission-equipped vehicles from 2006, including the Wrangler and Jjeep Liberty and also the Dodge Viper.

FCA engineers discovered that the clutch ignition interlock switches use a type of wire which had previously been recalled. Ddue to this, the company stated that the vehicles affected may have problems starting, although in unique cases, “if recommended starting procedures are not followed,” when the key has been turned the vehicles that have been affected could lurch forwards. Those recommended starting procedures “include activating the parking brake, placing the shift lever in neutral and pressing the clutch pedal before turning the vehicle’s ignition key.”

The second recall affects the company’s 2015 RAM ProMaster City Cargo and passenger vans. Owners will be required to head over to dealers to remove a part of tape from the side-curtain airbags. The tape is added whilst being assembled and in certain situations may have not been removed. This may stop the airbags from inflating in the case of an accident.

The first recall affects just under 59,000 vehicles, of which 43,874 are in the United States, 11,309 outside of North America, 2,944 in Canada and 706 in Mexico. Just over 3,900 vehicles are affected by the ProMaster City recall. FCA say that they don’t know of any accidents, injuries or fatalites caused by either of the recalls and that repairs will be done free of charge.
