Nissan iDx Is The Retro GTR We Want [PICS]

Remember how the Datsun used to be that great cheap car that is commonly used on street races? Well, it is now the base model for Nissan’s new concept, the IDx.

This Concept is revealed to run on the RWD system and it will be powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with around 180 horsepower on tap. While it might sound powerful, fans should note that the lightweight should compensate for the small power mill. Even the next Z is tipped to get smaller and lighter, possibly inspired by the iDx itself.

Then again, the excitement went downhill as the iDx is considered to be far from ready for production. Nissan aims to bring down the price of the vehicle but they have yet to find any cheap RWD system for the concept.

New rumours hinted that Nissan will be doing away with the retro design to accommodate the cheaper RWD system and adapt the car to work on a platform for the future Z vehicle.

This is something fans wouldn’t want to see happening as the concept design is what got them glued to the car in the first place. The iDx sports floating roof design and sharper edges around the fenders. If the iDx does come into production, we believe that it will sit below the mighty GT-R and the 370Z.
