Mazda RX-9: A Token To Celebrate Rotary & Mazda’s 100th Birthday

The year 2012 was thought to be the end of the world but instead it became the end for the Mazda RX-8. Ever since then, there has been dead silence on the RX-line of vehicles but now, the quiet days are over.

An industry insider had created a massive buzz after hinting on the RX-9, coming in 2020. This is complimented with a recent patent filed by Mazda that carries the RX-9 moniker.

The secrecy soon came to an end after Mazda personally came out to let the cat out of the bag. The Japanese carmaker revealed that the RX-9 will be coming in 2017, which marks the fiftieth anniversary of rotary. The car will then be ready for 2020 as Mazda intends to celebrate their first century alive with a bang.

Of course, no details are revealed on what the RX-9 is aimed to offer. However, many market analysts agreed that the sports car will be created the same way like how Nissan developed the GT-R. Also, we could be seeing Mazda being innovative by utilizing an EV motor to amplify power and also improve fuel consumption.

What is more important is the next-gen rotary engine, which will be the main source of power for the RX-9. Mazda is aiming at about 450hp pumped out with aid of a turbocharger. If this is true, then the RX-9 will surely be in direct completion with the Mustang and the Camaro.
