LG G2 Android 5.0 Update: Don’t Trade In Your Phone Just Yet

The LG G2 is an old popular smartphone from 2013 that is still pending to receive the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update. With LG preparing to launch the G4, it somehow suggests that there might not be any further update coming to the G2.

If you are a G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980 or VS980 user, do not trade in your device just yet as there is still a way for you to experience the Lollipop OS. XDA developer, Rashed97, had just developed a custom ROM containing the Android 5.0 for the aforementioned G2 models and you can manually install it on your smartphone.

The only downside to this is that the custom ROM is in its early build and there are a couple of issues with it. Then again, Rashed97 has made assurance that he will personally fix the issues soon.

With that being said, you are highly encouraged to head down to XDA and download the custom ROM right away. Once done, you can follow the instructions below.

Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.

Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
