How To Set Your iPhone Ringtone With Your Own Music

It seems that the only way for iPhone users to personalize their device’s ringtone is with the Garageband application. However, there are other ways to do so as well. This is through using iTunes.

If you are an iPhone user and wish to learn on the iTunes method to change the smartphone’s ringtone, then follow the instructions below.

1. Run iTunes on your computer.
2. Browse the library and right click on the song that you want for your ringtone.
3. Select Get Info.
4. Under the Options tab, edit the duration of the track that you want for the ringtone.
5. Click on OK and right click again on the song. This time, select Create AAC Version. A duplicate will appear.
6. Now, restore back the duration settings on the original song like how it was supposed to be.
7. Once done, right click on the duplicate and select Show in Windows Explorer.
8. Rename the selected song and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r. If the file extension fails to show up when wanting to rename, you have to run some windows settings to make it appear. If not, it won’t work.
9. Now, select the renamed file and add it to Tones section of your iTunes library.
10. Connect the iPhone to the computer and run iTunes.
11. Click on the Tones button on iTunes menu and make sure Synch Tones is checked.
12. Once Synch is done, run your iPhone and change your ringtone in settings.

Amazingly, the process works like wonders. Just to be extra detail, the process was done on a Windows PC with iTunes 11.
