BMW X4 Or Porsche Macan: German Luxuries Battle It Out

The Porsche Macan has created new history as the bestselling luxury SUV Coupe after it was released earlier this year. Last month, BMW launched the all-new X4 and it looks to challenge the Macan to claim the luxury SUV segment. Let’s see how the new X4 fair in this hot contest.

In terms of design, the Macan can be described as a combination of the 918 Spyder and the Cayenne. It arrived with all the hallmark curves from Porsche, which appeals the general market. The X4, on the other hand, has a boxy structure with some bits of curves that gives it a bold and vicious stance. Regardless, both vehicles are near-identical in size, as well as height.

Under the hood, the Macan is powered by the 3L V6 engine that is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. This generates 255hp and 580Nm of torque that allows the car to sprint from knots to 60mph in just 5.7 seconds. There is a top speed of 142mph and fuel economy ratings of 28.3mpg.

The X4 runs on a 3L 6-cylinder engine that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV runs on 255hp with 560Nm of torque. This ensures that the X4 can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 5.4 seconds, while also, having a top speed of 145mph. The fuel economy rating is at 30.6mpg.

Despite the lesser torque, the 6-cylinder mill and extra gears on the gearbox puts the X4 ahead of the Macan. Also, the X4 is more fuel efficient than the latter. Obviously, we have to side with the X4 in this contest. However, we still feel that the Macan is unbeatable when it comes to offering the best handling around.
