2018 Ford Mustang GT500: Corvette’s 700hp Goal Not Good Enough

We would think that with a performance upgrade, the Chevrolet Corvette would be able to take on some of the other performance models like the Ford Mustang GT500 or the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat but that does not seem to be the case here.

There are speculations about Chevrolet looking to build a new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 model that will come with an upgraded engine. It is believed that after the upgrade, the 650hp engine that the Corvette is running on right now would push out about 700hp.

While 700hp is no small figure, it might not be enough if they planned to take on Ford or Dodge. The 2018 Ford Mustang GT500 could be coming in with an 800hp engine when it arrives while the current Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is already offering about 707hp with its Hellcat engine. There were talks about Dodge looking to upgrade their engine as well.

Based on the spy shots, the Corvette ZR1 will be coming in with an upgraded design but we will have to wait for Chevrolet to peel off those stickers before we can see what is underneath it all.
