2017 Volkswagen Golf R Ignored By Rival

By  |

The Volkswagen Golf R has always been one of the top performance models here in the US but with Ford now bringing in the Ford Focus RS, the spotlight is no longer on the Volkswagen Golf R.

With what the Volkswagen Golf R has to offer, it is not a bad model at all but the Ford Focus RS is not one easy rival to beat. The current Volkswagen Golf R will be coming in with a 2.0 liter inline 4 engine that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The engine will be offering about 292hp and 280lb ft of torque and will return about 22mpg in the city and 31mpg on the highway.

As nice as that is, Ford has something even better to offer on the Ford Focus RS. Under the hood is a 2.3 liter inline 4 engine that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The engine will be offering about 350hp and 350lb ft of torque. With additional features like DRL, fog lights and more, the Focus RS is the obvious winner here.

I agree the Ford has the power edge but the R has the style and maturity edge. The RS reminds me of the WRX, boy racer. I cant imagine pulling up to work and getting out of that car with my bosses watching. The big plus about the Golf R is that the style is refined and performance is understated and I think that counts for something.
