2017 Mazda CX-5: The Diesel That Can Beat Hybrids

After the whole diesel scandal, it felt like most of the automakers that wanted to offer something more fuel efficient will only consider a hybrid or EV powertrain so the fact that Mazda has decided to offer their customers in the US a diesel powered model will ensure that the CX-5 gets all the attention it wants.

We know that the Mazda CX-5 model will be coming in with a 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D engine that will be offering about 173hp and 310lb ft of torque. The EPA numbers have not been announced yet but it is estimated that the engine will return about 40 to 50mpg in the city and on the highway.

With numbers like that, the Mazda CX-5 will have no problem going up against some of the popular hybrid model in the market right now. While the Mazda CX-5 will be arriving next month, the diesel model will only be arriving at the end of the year so the wait is still not over for the fans.
