2017 Mazda CX-5: CX-9 Got Shortchanged

By  |

We all thought that the Mazda CX-9 lucked out when it was chosen to be the model to run around with the new Mazda engine. Some fans were hoping that Mazda would also offer the same engine on the Mazda CX-5 since the SUV is in need of a more powerful option.

Instead of getting a more powerful engine, the Mazda CX-5 was given a diesel engine. To some, that is even better than getting a more powerful engine. A lot of automakers have been trying to avoid offering their diesel model here in the US so it is nice to see Mazda giving it a go.

The Mazda CX-5 diesel model will be powered by a 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D engine. We still do not know the numbers yet but things are looking good on the side of the CX-5 right now.

The only things we need right now is for Mazda to confirm that the manual transmission will be returning as well.
