2016 Volkswagen Golf R Can’t Take On Newcomer Just Yet

By  |

Volkswagen will be releasing the upgraded 2017 Volkswagen Golf R soon but before that happens, let’s see if the current Volkswagen Golf R is able to take on the newcomer, the Ford Focus RS.

The Ford Focus RS will be coming in with a 2.3 liter inline 4 engine that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The engine will be delivering about 350hp and 350lb ft of torque. The Ford Focus RS will come with safety features like DRL, cornering lights, fog lights and more

The Volkswagen Golf R, on the other hand, will come in with a 2.0 liter inline 4 engine that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Golf R will deliver about 292hp and 280lb ft of torque and will return about 22mpg in the city and 31mpg on the highway. The Golf R will also come fitted with safety features like dusk sensing headlights, traction control, stability control and more.

Things are not looking great for the Golf R right now but things might change when the 2017 model arrives.

Everyone knows the 2017 Golf R is not changing in power or performance from the 2016 the specs aren’t changing. Improvements are in drivers assistance and other cabin features. Test away with the 2016, it will tell you all you need to know.

Not sure what the staff writer is talking about as I believe the 2017 R is coming with virtually no change to the 2016 except an additional colour…..
