2015 Land Rover Discovery Is Cross Between Ford Explorer and Range Rover

We have seen the concept for the Land Rover Discovery and people are saying that it is the template for Discovery models in the future and these could be coming out next year. There has been some versatile and innovative features along with new technology.

The concept was launched with a scale model of Virgin Galactic spacecraft the USS Intrepid at the Manhattan sea, air and space centre.

The Discovery will change from the single model to a category defining SUV and thanks to the concept we know have a good idea of what we can expect from the Land Rover.

The managing director said ‘We announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March that the Discovery family is set to evolve. And it is apt that in the 25th anniversary year of the original Discovery that we preview how this evolution will take us forward into a daring new era. The Discovery Vision Concept gives us the first stunning glimpse into this hugely exciting future.’

The concept showed us a stepped roof, alpine lights and a design that is attractive. The seating can be reconfigured to meet people’s needs, in seven, six, five or four seating arrangements.

The tail gate is now one piece and the rear sill can be used. There is also a folding bench seat and a ski or bike rack fits onto the step sill.

The inside is premium leather and on the floors there are wood veneers, this is seen on the instrument panel too. There is also Harris tweed accessories.

There is a host of technology including the next gen human interface for a multimedia experience, Smart Glass for augmented reality and doors, indicators, headlights and seatback screens that are gesture controlled.

Remote control driver allows the driver to stand outside of the car and control it and there are laser headlights with dipped beams to track objects. Laser referencing makes it easy to get out of tight spaces by projecting imagery onto the ground.

There is a head up display and cameras under the grilles with windscreen integrated display. There are front foglights with laser terrain scanning and this can render a contour map onto the HD display. It works with an All Terrain guidance system to chart a path.

The Director of Research and Technology for Jaguar said ‘As a true pioneer, Land Rover is committed to constantly pushing the boundaries to redefine what SÚV capability and versatility is all about. The Discovery Vision Concept shows the breadth of innovative, intelligent technologies being developed in order to offer our future customers unprecedented capability across any kind of terrain.’
