2014 Toyota RAV4 Review: Its An Original Crossover

The RAV4 was credited as inventing the crossover utility vehicle and the 4th gen of it has arrived to reclaim that title.

The RAV4 did lose its edge over the competition as the Honda CR-V is stronger and the Mazda CX-5 isnt a lot to go on either. However there is one thing that is certain about the Toyota RAV4 and it’s that it isn’t one of the toy crossovers designed for the city. When you check out the large rubber skirt on the side you can tell the car means business.

While the Toyota RAV4 is front wheel driven mainly, the torque distribution goes up to 50:50. There is a dynamic torque control AWD system and this sends power to the back wheels when there is slip at the front.

Opting for the 4WD lock mode is good as this keeps the 50:50 split on up to 25mph even if you are not going over rugged terrain it’s a good option for going around corners.

Toyota has done a great job and while the RAV4 wanted the crown of queen of the crossovers, it doesn’t stand out much. The 2014 RAV4 starts at $23, 300 and if you want AWD it costs another $1,400.
