2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek vs Mazda MX-5: The Leading SUV

The Mazda CX-5 Sport is among the best SUVs to arrive this year. This is not surprising as the Japanese carmaker is known to produce great SUVs before. With the Subaru XV Crosstrek already out, how will it compare to the great CX-5 Sport.

Both vehicles are equal on engine capacity. They are fitted with a 2L gas 4-cylinder engine. However, the Crosstrek is built as an AWD that runs on a five-speed transmission. The Mazda CX-5 is a 4WD that is operated through a five-speed transmission.

Both SUVs are also energy efficient. However, it is the CX-5 that has the better figures as it 4.1% more fuel savvy in the city and 6.1% on the highway.

In addition to that, the CX-5 arrived with tons of features that didn’t make it into the Crosstrek. The list includes keyless ignition, powered exterior mirror control, cruise control, one touch windows and a power tilt steering wheel.

Then again, the Crosstrek has its own perks such as Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, hands free calling and climate control air-conditioner. Both vehicles also include keyless entry, auxiliary audio input jacks and USB/iPod ports.

The price tags of both cars are not far apart. The Crosstrek cost $21,995 while the CX-5 Sport is selling at $21,395. It is a close call but the Mazda CX-5 is the winner.
