2014 Porsche Cayenne vs BMW X5: The Best Luxury SUV Is…

Majority of the population can’t afford a luxury SUV but that didn’t deter them from keeping tabs on which is the best and which is not. Today, we shall compare the latest Porsche Cayenne with the BMW X5 and see which luxury SUV stands above the rest.

Both mid-size SUV runs on the AWD system and are able to accommodate 5 passengers easily. The Porsche Cayenne, in particular, is powered by a 3.6L Gas V-6 engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Power isn’t a problem for the Cayenne as it offers 300hp and 295 ft-lbs of torque.

However, the decision to run on a V6 motor means that efficiency will be at its poorest. The Cayenne recorded 15mpg in city roads and 22mpg on highways.

The X5, on the other hand, does not run on a petrol system. Instead, the SUV is powered by a 3L naturally aspirated diesel Inline-6 motor that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The X5 is not short of power as it is able to produce 255hp and a whopping 413 ft-lbs of torque.

Efficiency is also marvellous for the X5 as it is able to achieve 23mpg on city roads and 31mpg on highways. This is something really impressive for such a powerful engine. It also says that the X5 is 34.8% more fuel efficient than the Cayenne.

Both luxury vehicles are well equipped to offer the ultimate comfort to its passengers. However, it is the X5 that continues to blow our minds as it comes with an all-terrain function that allows it to take on some serious off-road challenge.

Then again, it is the Cayenne that is more beautiful as it comes with Porsche hallmark design. On the downside of things, this means that nobody would want to get the Cayenne dirty, making it a handicap in the off-road department.

Price-wise, the BMW X5 retails from $56,600. This is $7,750 more expensive than the Cayenne’s $48,850 price tag. However, the X5 is cheaper in the long run thanks to its efficiency. That is more than enough to name the X5 as the winner in this contest.
